National Tree Day 2026
National Tree Day is Australia’s largest tree planting and nature care event. Join Brimbank Council and Friends of Kororoit Creek (FOKC) to help restore habitat at the much-loved "Stepping Stones" site along Kororoit Creek in Sunshine West.
Spend a rewarding morning planting native shrubs, grasses and wildflowers alongside community members, contributing to healthier habitats for local wildlife and a greener future for Brimbank. Come along, connect with nature and meet new people!
Schedule
9.45am - Registration opens
10.00am - Acknowledgment of Country, Introductions and planting demonstrations
10.30am - Planting and kids' activities begin (Activities include: Making Clay Animals and Face Painting with FOKC, and a Bird Survey with John Harris, Wildlife Experiences)
12.00pm - Light vegetarian refreshments served
12.30pm - Water plants and tidy up
1pm - Event finishes
What to bring
Wear weather-appropriate clothing: bring a rain/wind-proof jacket
Closed-toe, waterproof shoes (gumboots are a good idea!)
Drink bottle and reusable cup (for hot drinks)
Gardening gloves if you have them
Food
Some delicious Indian snacks and hot Masala Chai will be served by Melbourne Mandir catering free of charge. The food is completely vegetarian, vegan and halal, with some gluten free options. You may want to bring your own snacks if you have special dietary requirements or preferences.
Toilets
Please note there is no toilet at the event site, however there are public toilets at nearby Buckingham Reserve which is only 600m away (2 min drive, 8 min walk)

This event is at the Kororoit Creek Reserve behind 60-62 Warmington Rd, Sunshine West.
By car
There is no allocated or off-street parking for this event so we encourage people to walk, ride, catch a bus, or carpool. If you are needing to drive, please carpool as much as possible and check the map (streets marked yellow) for parking options. There is some free limited parking available at Buckingham Reserve which is a 10 minute walk away. There is free street parking available in the surround streets. Please see the map below. Please make sure you don't park near to street corners or block traffic.

By public transport
The 471 bus from Sunshine Station goes to near the event site - get off at the Warmington Rd/Fairburn Rd stop and walk 400m to the event site.
Accessibility: The event is only a 50m walk from Warmington Road where drop off and parking is available. The planting will take place on a gentle sloped area that is near to the Kororoit Creek Shared User path. Some areas are flat, and some are a bit steeper, so there should be opportunities for those with limited mobility to participate. We will have some chairs available for those that will need to sit down for breaks.
