About Bring Us Home from Sorrow
'15 December 2020: Mum diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Should I go be with mum?'
From across the seas that divided us, over the next seven months, that question would twist inside me, helplessly, desperately. I had understood, but not in the truest way of knowing that this, right here, was the beginning of sorrow. I began writing letters to my mother. I knew I was taking notes of the end.
This is an intimate portrait of losing a mother and the ways we are kept apart from those we love by distance, disease and death. It is also a celebration of the salvation of ocean swimming through bereavement and the slow return to a world forever changed by the loss.
Come join internationally bestselling author Joanne Fedler for the launch of her 17th book, Bring Us Home from Sorrow, a memoir about losing her mother and her love of the ocean which helped her navigate grief.
Joanne will be in conversation with Dr Linda Friedland at Beaufort Street Books to talk about what it means to lose a mother, and to become reworlded in the wake of such a singular loss.
Described as a book 'large of heart and narrative scope,' by Katia Ariel, 'raw, wise and beautifully written,' by Jane Tara, and 'a vigil for the secret life of grief' by poet Jessy Chapnik Kahn, this memoir offers companionship in times of sorrow.
Light refreshments will be served, and books will be on sale.
