People's Blockade - Getting Brisbane Action Ready!

Description

In November this year, thousands of  people will take part in one of the largest peaceful civil disobedience protests for climate action in Australia’s history - shutting down the world’s largest coal port, on Awabakal and Worimi land and water, at Muloobinba (Newcastle, NSW).

The People’s Blockade, a colourful flotilla of  kayaks and other vessels will occupy the harbour -  stopping the coal ships.

Join us on Saturday 21st October for a comprehensive training to prepare you to participate in this historical event. There are TWO sessions on offer - come for one or both, and join us for lunch!

SESSION 1: 9:30am-12:30pm - Introduction to Non Violent Direct Action

  • An outline of what to expect at the People’s Blockade
  • We’ll explore:
    • History of nonviolent direct action is and why it works
    • What is non violence?
    • What are the things we worry about, and how do we avoid these situations?
    • How to de-escalate a situation

LUNCH: 12:35-1:05 ($10 cash on the day, or pay-what-you-can)

SESSION 2: 1:15pm-4pm -  Preparing for the People’s Blockade

  • A more detailed outline of what to expect at the People’s Blockade, and how you can participate  
  • Legal briefing 
  • Interacting with police - know your rights!
  • OPT IN: Action and affinity group planning


If you’re curious about civil disobedience and not sure how you want to be involved in the People’s Blockade, or you’re an experienced activist and wanting to plan - this training is for you!

GETTING TO ALBION PEACE CENTRE (102 McDonald Rd, Windsor):

  • Drive: there is ample parking around the venue
  • Train: Albion train station is a 2min walk away
