Brisbane Greeters: Queen Street to the Botanic Gardens

From convicts to civic grandeur, this walk uncovers the layers beneath Brisbane's streets. Starting at City Hall, the route traces Brisbane's origins as a penal colony through its evolution into one of Australia's most dynamic cities, taking in public artworks and sweeping views across the river to South Bank - keep an eye out for an egret or green heron along the way.

The walk continues through the Queensland University of Technology precinct, exploring Old Government House and the stories of the remarkable figures who shaped colonial Queensland - William Robinson, Lady Bowen and Lady Lamington among them. A stop at The Cube offers a glimpse of what's playing on one of the world's largest outdoor screens, before the route concludes at the QUT Art Gallery and the tranquil City Botanic Garden.
