    Event description

Our next event is a seminar about Brisbane floods in the 50th year since the devastating flood in January 1974. After three weeks of continual rain, the Brisbane River broke its banks and flooded the surrounding areas. The cyclone that produced the flood also flooded Ipswich, Beenleigh, and the Gold Coast. In total, there were 16 fatalities, 300 people injured, 8,000 homes destroyed, 13,000 properties impacted and an estimated $980 million in damages.

Margaret Cooke author of ‘River with a City Problem’, will speak about all things flood related. Lisa Jones, Curator of the Queensland Police Museum, will weave a tale about how the Queensland Police handled the 1974 flood, and Christine Ianna, Museum Conservator, will tell you how to protect your family treasures from flooding and the steps to take after the water has receded.

10.30am Registration, BHG bookshop and morning tea. For catering purposes please book by Wed 24th April
