    Event description

    The Gisborne Walking Club invites you to join them on the Brisbane Ranges, Extended Loop. Grade 3+ (Medium+). This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

    This walk is suited to hikers who like to challenge themselves with a variety of trails, landscapes, vegetation and terrain surrounding a historic mining town.

    DISTANCE:  17.7 km Loop Walk.  Duration 5.5 hrs, including breaks.

    WHO IS THIS WALK FOR?  This walk is suited to bushwalkers with some experience and a reasonable level of fitness.

    CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.  

    AWT Grade: GRADE 3+ or, Medium +.  AWT Grade information. 

    PACE: Steady, with regular hydration stops.

    TOTAL ASCENT: 608m. With 2 long steep climbs and, 7 shorter inclines.

    WALK DESCRIPTION: This is a challenging walk passing through the Brisbane Ranges National Park and Steiglitz Historic Park. The trail passes through a variety of open forest and terrains including gorges, with steady climbs along the way but nothing too hard. Including some wonderful open bushlands. We will stop for regular water breaks as well as morning tea and lunch.

    MEETING POINT: Is in the carpark, opposite the Gisborne Aquatic Centre.  We will meet here, and carpool/convoy the 1hr to the start of the walk at the Steiglitz Court House (Google Map).  We recommend you download this map for use offline. GPS coordinates: -37. 87702, 144.17831

    CARPOOLING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT: There will be carpooling available at the Gisborne meeting point.

    PHONE SIGNAL: Phone signal can be poor to not existent.

    TOILETS: There are public toilets at the start/finish and at morning tea

    ABOUT OUR CLUB: Gisborne Bushwalking Club (GBWC) is over 40 years old and a membership of approximately 80. Members are drawn from the Macedon Ranges, Sunbury and beyond, with some members travelling from Melbourne suburbs. Membership comprises a range of ages, abilities, backgrounds and interests. GBWC offers mainly day walks, activities include hiking with a pack, overnight camping, and sunrise/sunset walks. Victorian and interstate base camps, are popular with cabin accommodation arranged for periods from a weekend to a week or more. Visit our website.
