No Mountain Too High; Village Development in Nepal.
Event description
Deb and Rod Setterlund have volunteered in Nepal for 25 years for the Nepal Australia Friendship Association. Both Deb and Rod were both awarded the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours list. The award was in recognition of their service to the Nepalese people.
They will share with us stories of their time in Nepal. Deb has written a book called 'Where the Tiger Lives: A Tamang Oral History' and Rod has written the book called " No Mountain Too High: Village Development in Nepal".
Rod's book shares the stories in the words of the villagers, experiencing and surviving and rebuilding livelihoods after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Anzac Day in 2015. The book outlines the story of a development partnership involving NAFA and villagers living in the remote village of Tawai.
Deb published a book " where the Tiger Lives: A Tamang Oral History" which brings to life the rich story of a strong, egalitarian people with an inspirational belief that, ultimately their future is in their own hands. The book challenges the negative stereotypes of the Tamang ethnic group.
Rod and Deb will welcome questions and comments from participants after their presentation.
