    Event description

We are excited to invite you to the BRMC Spring Multicultural Dialogue, where we will focus on water safety and survival strategies.

There were 323 drowning deaths over the past 12 months. Tragically, 59 lives were lost to drowning last year in Victoria. Alarmingly, 25% were born overseas, including migrants, refugees, and international students. The highest number of victims have been from India, China, Nepal, and the UK.

This event, in partnership with Life Saving Victoria, is designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and hands-on experience in water safety.

What to Expect at the Water Safety Education Program:

    • Supervision: Learn the importance of 'Never swim alone' and 'Always swim with a friend.'
    • Swim between the Red and Yellow flags. Understand the significance of these safety markers at the beach.
    • Identify People Who Can Help You: Recognize the role of lifeguards and how they can assist you.
    • Read Safety Signs & Check Conditions: Get familiar with reading safety signs and assessing water conditions before entering.
    • Lifejacket Safety: Learn how to properly wear and use lifejackets for maximum protection.
    • Identify and Avoid Dangers: Understand how to spot potential hazards in and around water.
    • Emergency Preparedness: Know what to do if an emergency situation arises while in or near the water.
    • SunSmart: Stay safe under the sun with essential tips to protect yourself from harmful UV rays.
    • Know Your Limits: Understand the importance of 'Don’t drink and drown' and be aware of your personal limits when engaging in water activities.

This event promises to be an enriching experience that will enhance your water safety skills and prepare you to handle emergencies effectively. We look forward to your active participation in making our community safer on and around waterways.
