A public lecture by Professor Mario Brondani, Chair, Division of Dental Public Health Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, University of British Columbia and 2024 UWA Institute of Advanced Studies Visiting Fellow.

In this keynote lecture, Professor Brondani will discuss ongoing developments in this topic, accompanied by real-world examples and the valuable insights Professor Brondani’s team has gathered based on their research, particularly in the fields of dental public health, ageing and models of care. This presentation will also raise the profile of the importance of oral health in this population group and create substantial interest with diverse audiences, including academics, researchers, oral health professionals, and community stakeholders.
Mario Brondani is a professor of Dental Public Health and Chair of the Division of Dental Public Health at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Professor Brondani has a long-standing research interest in the oral health of equity-seeking marginalised populations that experience stigma and discrimination, including Indigenous Peoples and low-income earners, as well as older adults over 65 years. His scholarly work, underpinned by principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, has included dental public health, geriatric dentistry and dental education. Professor Brondani developed and currently coordinates UBC’s entire curriculum in dental geriatrics and dental public health, with considerable interest in teaching pedagogies and learning tools. He is passionate about the mentorship and graduate supervision of future leaders in dentistry and dental hygiene. Professor Brondani is past president of both the Canadian Association of Public Health Dentistry and the IADR’s Geriatric Oral Research Group.
Professor Brondani is a 2024 UWA Institute of Advanced Studies Visiting Fellow, working with Professor Linda Slack-Smith and Dr Angela Durey in the UWA School of Population and Global Health.
