Brook Turner, Sharing the Inside Story with Suzie Holt
Event description
It’s 2021. Around Australia, frustrated communities are fed up with being a distant second priority for the major political parties who seemed to have a lot of interests… that didn’t seem to include or align with the people they “represent”.
Fast forward to 2022 and in an historic election for our country, Community Independent candidates LOVED by their communities are elected in record numbers!
Join an inspiring conversation with those who were there in the 2022 Federal Election. Brook and Suzie know why
– and more importantly how people power changed the game.
-
Journalist, Brook Turner spoke to all the key players in the 2022 elections and followed the campaign. He tells the
inside story of the grassroots movement that has up-ended politics in Australia. He explains how and why the
community politics model, minted in Cathy McGowan's campaign in rural Victoria, has been adopted around the
country, fueled by local fundraising & crowdfunding groups.

- Suzie Holt, Community Independent candidate for Groom, understands the power of building a grassroots community movement. In 2022, she made history with a 13.6% swing in her favour in the long-held LNP seat. Come along to hear how she did it. Suzie is quoted as saying, "Someone had to smash it to start with... It's been worth it, because we've shifted the dial, which is a great outcome for our region and the conversation has changed."
