Audience: Managers, People and Culture/Learning Development Staff in Aged Care and/or Disability services

How successful are your buddy shifts? Do they set staff up to succeed? This course will guide organisations to set up a program to use buddy shifts to successfully orientate care and support staff, improve the experience of the people they support, and retain staff.


Part 1: e-Learning - Self-paced online module (approx 30 minutes)

Completion of this module is to ensure attendees have foundational knowledge on:

  • Understand the role and responsibility of staff who are buddies, including their scope of practice and role boundaries
  • Being aware of health and safety risks and understand the importance of policies and procedures
  • Orientating the new staff member to use a person’s care and support plan and documentation requirements
  • Providing support, preparing for, and completing a buddy shift


Part 2: Instructor Led Training via Zoom

This interactive workshop will help transform the knowledge gained from Part 1 into useable skills.

Translate knowledge into practice, receive feedback, build and consolidate skills.

  • Learn a step-by-step process for selecting and preparing staff to be buddies
  • Gaining consent from people receiving services
  • See how a buddy program can support and provide evidence of Quality Standard compliance
  • Be able to evaluate buddy shifts to support continuous improvement

  • Not show the event in a group setting where unregistered attendees are present (you will either receive an invoice for the extra attendees or be removed and no refund given)

  • Remove unauthorised participants from a session if no response is received by the unauthorised attendee within 10 minutes (by Zoom chat).
  • Request all participants to turn on their camera

Notification of cancellation or transfer of registration must be by email to enquiry@acia.asn.au. No refund is available for any cancellations received five working days or less prior to the start date, however a substitute delegate is welcome. Please notify ACIA of any substitution as soon as possible. No refund or transfer will be given for non-attendance.
