Budgeting for Women’s Success 2023

Helen McCabe and Jamila Rizvi invite you to hear from politicians, policy experts and change makers, to dissect how the Australian Government's 2023 budget will impact women.

Attendees will enjoy a two-course meal and beverages at the National Portrait Gallery's Gordon Darling Hall, Canberra, as well as a keynote address from Sen the Hon Katy Gallagher and panel discussion with some of Australia's leading voices on the economy, gender and public policy.

Former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins will also join us for a special presentation.

SENATOR THE HON KATY GALLAGHER
MINISTER FOR FINANCE, WOMEN AND THE PUBLIC SERVICE

Minister Katy Gallagher has dedicated her working life to improving the lives of Australians, whether it was advocating for people with disability as a community worker, standing up for the rights of public servants as a Community and Public Sector Union Organiser or delivering for citizens of Canberra as the Chief Minister of the ACT.
As a Minister in the ACT Government and later as Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher led a progressive and future-focused government that legislated marriage equality, started Australia’s first public nurse-led walk-in medical centres and committed the Government to a 100% renewable energy target by 2020.
As a senior Cabinet Minister holding the Federal Government’s finance and the women’s portfolios, Katy Gallagher is passionate about making women’s equal opportunity an economic and social priority of government.

CHIOU SEE ANDERSON
PRESIDENT, NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN OF AUSTRALIA

A member of the PMC Women Economic Equality Taskforce, Chiou See is the current Queensland and Australian President of the National Council of Women, board member of the International Council of Women and the Australian delegate for W20 (G20's official engagement with women). She also owns and operates two retirement villages in Brisbane and Chairs Conpago, a tech platform for seniors.

MAJOR GENERAL SUE GRAHAM
HEAD BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION, DEFENCE


Major General Sue Graham began her Army career in the Army Reserves while studying at Sydney University. Her transfer into the full-time Army saw her deployed to East Timor as part of the INTERFET mission, to Banda Aceh following the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and as part of the Defence response force to the 2011 Queensland floods. During her Army career, she has completed several degrees and was previously the Commanding Officer of Joint Logistics Unit, South Queensland for which she received a Conspicuous Service Cross. In 2022, Major General Graham was appointed Head Business Transformation with responsibility to support Defence’s adoption of an Enterprise Resource Planning solution through new ways of working across processes, technology uptake and people uplift.

SAM MOSTYN AO
CHAIR OF THE WOMEN'S ECONOMIC EQUALITY TASKFORCE

Sam Mostyn is a businesswoman and sustainability adviser, with a long history of executive and governance roles across business, sport, climate change, the arts, policy, and NFP sectors. She is Chair of Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce, FYA, AIIW, ANROWS and Aware Super, serves on boards of Mirvac and the Climate Change Authority; alongside a broad portfolio of other roles including chairing Ausfilm and the Centre for Policy Development; past President of Chief Executive Women, Chair of Citi Australia and Climate Council board member. Sam was awarded the Order of Australia in 2021 for distinguished service to business and sustainability, and to the community, through seminal contributions to a range of organisations, and to women.

JENNIFER WESTACOTT AO
CHIEF EXECUTIVE, BUSINESS COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA

Jennifer Westacott AO has served as the Business Council of Australia's Chief Executive for over 10 years, leading the organisation's advocacy for a stronger and fairer society. Jennifer's career has spanned both the public and private sectors, including multiple senior leadership positions in the NSW and Victorian governments. She has served as a Non-Executive Director of Wesfarmers Limited since 2013, and as of last year she became the first woman to serve as the Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney.

HELEN MCCABE
MANAGING DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER, FUTURE WOMEN

Journalist, magazine editor and digital media executive. Helen was Editor-in-Chief of The Australian Women's Weekly, Deputy Editor of The Sunday Telegraph and spent more than a decade working in television before founding Future Women in 2018. Helen also hosts FW's weekly Leadership Series podcast, featuring stories of influential women who lead.

JAMILA RIZVI
DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR, FUTURE WOMEN

Best-selling author, opinion columnist, podcast host and gender equality advocate. Previously, Jamila advised the Rudd and Gillard Governments on gender equality, early childhood education, media and employment participation. Jamila is also a board member of the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas, and an ambassador for Plan International.

Pre-dinner networking drinks from 6.30pm, dinner and panel discussion - $300 for individuals and $3,000 for tables of 10, includes networking drinks, 2-course meal and 2-hour beverage package over dinner.
