Bug Hotel Workshop Katikati - Encourage biodiversity in your garden
Event description
Join us at the Grow On Katikati Shed (next to the community centre) at 45 Beach road, Katikati from 10.30am - 1.30pm on Saturday 10th of August to make your own bug hotel to take home! Â
Bug hotels are a fun way to help increase your garden's biodiversity and have fun crafting with recycled materials. Beautiful gardens are often very tidy and clear of all the stuff insects like to make their home in, like dead leaves, branches and other natural materials. By constructing a bug hotel, you are ensuring there is a safe, dry place for our native insects to nest in within our cities, and as an added bonus, some insects can be very beneficial to your garden too! Â
For $20 per bug hotel we will provide you with all the materials you need to help you construct your wooden bug hotel out of wood and the natural materials to fill it as well. You will then be able to take home a pretty bug hotel that's ready to start accepting guests!
To help speed things along, please feel free to bring your own hammer and/or electric drill (we have the nails and screws you will need, but only have a few hammers and screwdrivers for everyone to share).
Please be aware some of the wood we are using is recycled from pallets so splinters are a possibility especially for small hands. Please bring gardening gloves if this is a concern.Â
This workshop is suitable for both adults or children 8 yrs old and above. Children 8 - 14yrs must be accompanied by an adult.
