Description

About the workshop

How can AI support schools to develop a coherent curriculum without losing the professional judgement and local knowledge that make each language program unique?

This practical, face-to-face workshop introduces participants to using AI as a curriculum planning partner.

Working with their own school context and curriculum materials, participants will develop a tailored master prompt that captures their learners, curriculum requirements, teaching philosophy and practical constraints, and then use it to begin developing a whole-school Scope and Sequence.

The focus will not simply be on generating content. Participants will learn how to guide, question, critique and refine AI outputs so that curriculum planning remains realistic, purposeful and aligned with the needs of their school community.

Schools are encouraged to attend with 2-3 staff members so that decisions can be discussed collaboratively.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will learn how to:

  • identify the school and learner information AI needs to produce useful curriculum outputs;

  • develop a reusable curriculum master prompt;

  • use AI to generate and refine a draft whole-school Scope and Sequence;

  • evaluate AI-generated curriculum for progression, relevance and feasibility;

  • use teacher consultation and professional judgement to improve AI-generated curriculum; and

  • establish a repeatable process for future curriculum development.

This is a practical working session, not a lecture-style presentation. Participants will actively work with their own curriculum materials during the workshop.

IMPORTANT - What Participants Need to Bring

This is a hands-on workshop. Please bring:

  • a laptop and charger;

  • internet access / ability to connect to Wi-Fi;

  • access to ChatGPT or Claude — a paid account is strongly recommended where possible;

  • relevant Victorian Curriculum Languages documentation;

  • your current Scope and Sequence or other curriculum documents, if available;

  • your school’s vision, mission, charter, teaching and learning philosophy and relevant planning documents;

  • information about class structures, year levels and approximate teaching hours; and

  • any other documents that help describe your school’s curriculum context.

We strongly encourage schools to send 2–3 participants so that curriculum decisions can be discussed collaboratively during the workshop.

About Eva Murer

Eva Murer is the Principal and co-founder of GECKOS – German Community School Melbourne. Originally from Austria, she immigrated to Australia in 2011 and has since built a life around education, community and wellbeing.

During the week, Eva works in workplace wellbeing across four public schools in Melbourne's northern suburbs, drawing on her background as a psychotherapist to support staff through coaching and critical incident stress management. On Saturdays, she leads GECKOS, the German community language school she co-founded in 2013, where children, families and educators come together to learn, connect and celebrate language and culture.

With a background in primary teaching (Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching, University of Ballarat — now Federation University), and a Master in Educational Science from Karl Franzens University, Graz (Austria), Eva is passionate about creating safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments. She is particularly interested in how community language schools can support children's wellbeing, strengthen their sense of belonging, and how community language schools can thoughtfully embrace new opportunities, including AI, while keeping community, people and relationships at the centre.
