Description

About the workshop

How can AI help teachers turn curriculum intentions into detailed, classroom-ready learning?

This hands-on workshop moves from broad curriculum planning into unit and lesson design.

Participants who attended Workshop 1 can work from the Scope and Sequence developed there, while those joining independently can bring an existing unit focus or curriculum area they would like to develop.

Using AI, participants will design a coherent unit of work and begin developing the detailed lessons within it. The workshop will explore sequencing, differentiation, curriculum alignment, assessment, rubrics and resource development, with a strong focus on ensuring individual lessons contribute meaningfully to the goals of the overall unit.

Throughout the workshop, AI will be used to increase planning capacity while keeping teacher expertise, adaptation and quality assurance at the centre of the process.

Schools are encouraged to send more than one staff member where possible so colleagues can work together during the practical activities.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will learn how to:

  • translate curriculum goals into a coherent unit of work

  • use AI to develop detailed lesson sequences

  • design differentiation for mixed-proficiency language classrooms

  • use AI to support assessment and rubric development

  • generate and refine practical classroom resources

  • evaluate and improve AI-generated lesson materials

  • establish a repeatable AI-assisted workflow for future unit planning.

This is a practical working session, not a lecture-style presentation. Participants will actively work with their own curriculum materials during the workshop.

IMPORTANT - What Participants Need to Bring

This is a hands-on workshop. Please bring:

  • a laptop and charger;

  • internet access / ability to connect to Wi-Fi;

  • access to ChatGPT or Claude — a paid account is strongly recommended where possible;

  • relevant Victorian Curriculum Languages documentation;

  • your Scope and Sequence from Workshop 1, if attending both workshops; or

  • an existing unit idea, topic or curriculum focus you would like to develop;

  • existing assessment requirements and teaching materials relevant to that unit.

Schools are encouraged to send more than one staff member where possible so colleagues can work together during the practical activities.

About Eva Murer

Eva Murer is the Principal and co-founder of GECKOS – German Community School Melbourne. Originally from Austria, she immigrated to Australia in 2011 and has since built a life around education, community and wellbeing.

During the week, Eva works in workplace wellbeing across four public schools in Melbourne's northern suburbs, drawing on her background as a psychotherapist to support staff through coaching and critical incident stress management. On Saturdays, she leads GECKOS, the German community language school she co-founded in 2013, where children, families and educators come together to learn, connect and celebrate language and culture.

With a background in primary teaching (Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching, University of Ballarat — now Federation University), and a Master in Educational Science from Karl Franzens University, Graz (Austria), Eva is passionate about creating safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments. She is particularly interested in how community language schools can support children's wellbeing, strengthen their sense of belonging, and how community language schools can thoughtfully embrace new opportunities, including AI, while keeping community, people and relationships at the centre.
