Employer pledge, part of Jobs and Skills Month 2026

On Tuesday 20 October, the opening day of Jobs and Skills Month 2026, Workinitiatives launches Building Change, our campaign to better connect Australia's employment ecosystem to the people who need it. Support women to WorkinConstruction is the first initiative under Building Change: a national employer pledge asking construction to build workplaces where women can enter, feel safe, belong, develop, progress, stay and thrive.

The proposition

We've spent years asking women to consider construction. Now it's time to ask construction what it needs to change for women.

Increasing participation isn't just about attraction, it's about employers building workplaces where women can genuinely stay and grow. That's what the pledge asks construction employers to commit to, publicly.

The Building Change philosophy

Australia already has the talent it needs. What's missing is connection, between the people ready to work, the organisations already supporting them and the employers who need them.

Hundreds of advocacy groups, charities, community organisations and training providers are doing extraordinary work every day, including many focused on women's participation in the trades. We don't need to reinvent that work. We need to better connect it.

For women in construction, that means our technology makes it easier for:

• women to discover genuine opportunities in construction

• support organisations working with women in the trades to connect with employers who need them

• construction employers to reach more diverse talent pools

• the construction industry to improve participation and retention of women

• SMEs and microbusinesses to access workforce capability normally reserved for larger organisations

• Workinitiatives to measure the real impact this pledge creates for women in construction

Building Change is structured so further initiatives can be built for other cohorts. Women in construction is where it starts.
