Jess and Kaitlyn Lamb from Forest & Bird Youth will be talking all things compost... How to get started, composting to suit your lifestyle, and how to be a climate champion!

Join the UC Sustainability Office and these two amazing wāhine to learn how growing organic regenerative food and making compost can reconnect your community back to Papatūānuku and help to build local food resilience.

Jess and Kaitlyn have run several compost workshops before to spread the magic of composting in their community, as well as interning at the Rotorua Lakes Council where they educated the public on why composting is so important and how to do it.

They will be making a hot compost heap during the workshop, so you can watch, learn and get inspired to build a compost in your home.

Location: Te Ngaki o Waiutuutu | Waiutuutu Community Garden is located on the University of Canterbury's Ilam Campus and appears as ‘Waiutuutu Community Garden’ on Google maps. It can be accessed on foot by going to Engineering Road and looking for the sign across from the Civil Engineering building. There is a stream walkway, continue along this until you reach the gardens on the right (up the steps). For a wheelchair accessible entrance - if you continue to walk along the stream pathway, you will come to a bench, take a right up a switchback path and you will see the garden.

Getting there:

Biking: You are welcome to bring your bike to the garden, or bike stands can be found on Engineering Road.

Bus: See bus routes and connections to UC here.

Driving: The closest car park is Erskine car park on Science Rd - this is free at the weekend. Another option is on-street parking on Montana Avenue or Ilam Rd.
