Event description

PLEASE NOTE THIS MEETING IS A CEA MEMBER ONLY EVENT.

Build and transform the capacity of your learners - A four session series for educators.

Session 1: What is learning really?

This professional learning series supports learning facilitators and educators in strengthening their practice—not by adding more content, but by deepening how we design, facilitate, and reflect on learning itself.

Whether you're delivering accredited training or community based learning, your role is pivotal in shaping not only what people know, but how they think, adapt, and act.

Across four sessions, we’ll explore how to embed the principles of sustainable learning into everyday teaching practice, focusing on:

  • Holistic learning – emotional, social, cognitive, and practical dimensions

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving – developing judgment and reasoning

  • Collaborative learning – fostering participation and peer-based meaning-making

  • Authentic learning – connecting tasks to learners’ lives and futures

  • Future-focused skills – adaptability, resilience, and lifelong learning

These capabilities are not just education goals—they are sustainability goals.

There are four sessions in the series: Taking place on 24 July, 28 August, 11 September and 9 October. All are set for Thursdays at 11am.

Session 1: What is Learning Really?

Learning is a lifelong process, but our motivations and methods evolve over time. In this session, we’ll unpack what learning truly is, how our own experiences shape our teaching, and how to better engage adult learners.

In this session, we will:

  • Workshop the question “What is learning?” and identify practices that may block it

  • Reflect on how our student experiences influence our teaching

  • Explore models that support adult learning

  • Apply holistic learning principles to design more engaging environments
