Building Resilience
Event description
Building Resilience
Come and spend time on a Permaculture property looking at strategies and techniques that can be used to build resilience. A resilient property is one that is better able to handle change/disturbance and is more likely to recover quicker.
Morning 9-12pm: Healthy Food Gardens
Most food gardens have at one time or another been affected by pests, diseases and extreme weather. It often means yield is reduced, (or non exsistent!) and finding motivation to keep going can be tough. Come and learn the techniques and strategies Tan uses on her property to facilitate balance and encourage diversity. We will be looking at;
- Integrated pest management (including rotation & companion planting)
- Weeds
- Wildlife
- Managing waste
Afternoon 1-4pm: Designing for Disaster
This workshop focuses on the primary risks for our area of fire, heat waves and drought. How can we prepare to endure disaster and recover afterwards? How can permaculture help us to design our properties to reduce the extent and effect of a disaster?
This is an opportunity to look at what worked well for the property in the December bush fire last year. We will consider four main strategies and different techniques that can be used to prepare your property for fire.
Refreshments will be provided. Please bring something to share for lunch if you are here for the full day or would just like to socialize!
