Building Safety & Equality Together — Report Launch

Arab Council Australia invites you to the official launch of Building Safety & Equality Together, a report documenting ACA's work across the domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) continuum. The report reflects on the critical role of community-led, culturally relevant responses in creating meaningful, long-term change.

We're also pleased to launch a new webpage and podcast series alongside the report.

By sharing our journey and our learnings, we aim to inform future practice, foster more responsive services, and contribute to systems change, ensuring that the needs, voices and strengths of diverse communities remain central to DFSV prevention and support.

Join us for the launch, featuring and keynote speaker Amani Haydar, and guest speaker Violet Roumeliotis AM.

Guest Speaker

Amani Haydar is an award-winning author, visual artist, lawyer and advocate for women's health and safety based on Dharug land. Amani's memoir The Mother Wound explores the impacts of gender-based violence and state-sanctioned abuse on women, and received the 2022 Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Non-fiction. Amani currently sits on the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission's National Lived Experience Advisory Council and has recently commenced her PhD research with the UTS Law Faculty, examining the experiences of Muslim victim-survivors who encounter the criminal justice system in NSW.

Keynote Speaker

Violet Roumeliotis AM has spent close to 40 years leading for-purpose organisations, providing human services that promote equal opportunity and change the lives of individuals and families experiencing inequality. She is currently CEO of SSI, a national not-for-profit providing dedicated human and social services to a diverse Australia. In her time as CEO, Violet has taken SSI from a Sydney-based organisation with 68 staff to a workforce of more than 1,000 supporting over 53,000 people nationally each year. Violet is a previous National Telstra Business Woman of the Year and national winner of the For Purpose and Social Enterprise Category, and one of the AFR 100 Women of Influence. She sits on the Australian Council of Social Services Board (ACOSS), the NSW Women's Advisory Council and the Oz Harvest Community Council, and is Deputy Chair of the Metropolis International Migration Network.
