Description

In the midst of economic uncertainty, it can be tempting to let social, cultural and environmental responsibilities slip down the priorities list. Yet, it is these very commitments that underpin long-term resilience, innovation and success in our businesses and communities.

Join B Corp-certified architecture practice Cumulus Studio and a group of expert local voices to explore how they maintain their focus on purpose alongside performance. Through shared insights and real-world experience, the conversation will unpack how organisations and individuals stay the course on sustainability, community impact and responsible growth - and why doing so remains essential, even in challenging times.

Inclusive of a drink on arrival, light snacks and time for audience questions, this event promises to be a collaborative conversation that inspires, engages and motivates.

SPEAKERS

Lucia Wellington

Associate, Experienced Architect and Residential Lead, Cumulus Studio

Driven by a deep respect for people, context and the environment, Lucia appreciates architecture that contributes to the natural environment rather than degrades it, and firmly believes that all people deserve access to affordable living that enhances their daily experience.

Lucia’s career portfolio includes roles as Lead Architect at Brisbane’s Happy Haus, and Tutor and Research Assistant at the University of Tasmania’s School of Architecture and Design, as well as an internship at Atelier Bow Wow in Tokyo, during which time she embedded a range of progressive design approaches into her practice.

Sam Reid

Managing Director, Du Cane Brewing Co. and Co-Founder, Willie Smith’s Cider

Having co-founded southern Tasmania’s wildly successful Willie Smith’s Cider in 2012, Sam went on to lead the development of Du Cane Brewery & Dining Hall in 2021, helping to kick-start northern Tasmania’s opportunity in the agritourism sector, and cement Launceston’s designation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.

Alongside a corporate career spanning 15 years and three continents working in senior marketing and innovation roles, Sam’s experience also includes more than six years serving as President of Cider Australia. He is a passionate advocate for the positive impact that quality local food and beverage experiences can create in regional communities around the country.

Corey Peterson

Chief Sustainability Officer, University of Tasmania

Corey has worked at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) since 2010, progressing from Sustainability Officer to Chief Sustainability Officer, a role in which he is responsible for advancing a holistic organisational sustainability agenda. He has served on the UTAS Governing Council, on the board of several community organisations, and as President of Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS), and is currently a Director at TasWaste South.

With joint Masters Degrees in Environmental Science and Public Administration, Corey spent two years working as a project manager at California’s Environmental Systems Research Institute, and 16 years supporting science in Antarctica before immigrating to Tasmania.

Lauren Cameron

Carbon Action Advisor, Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania

With more than two decades of experience across sustainability, international development and tourism, Lauren’s career spans leadership roles in sustainable media in Hong Kong, managing development programs in Vietnam, partnering with tourism operators across Asia, and contributing to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. Her work has focused on addressing urban waste, marine pollution and climate resilience, with a consistent emphasis on aligning economic development with environmental responsibility.

Now serving as Australia’s first Carbon Action Advisor working within a tourism industry association, Lauren supports Tasmanian tourism operators to reduce emissions and embed sustainability into their core business strategies.

Tara Howell

Director, Blue Derby Pods Ride

As founder of the world’s first luxury adventure mountain biking experience, Tara lives and breathes her personal values through her business, embedding sustainability and environmental responsibility into strategy, operations and culture.
