Imported Bulk Grain Workshop
Event description
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry will host a workshop in Canberra on Wednesday 27 August 2025 to help industry better understand the biosecurity requirements and prepare for importing bulk whole grain into Australia.
Demand for imported grain is expected to rise, especially in response to changing climate conditions. During previous high-demand periods such as droughts, many importers have faced delays or disruptions due to lack of preparedness for Australia’s strict biosecurity requirements. The workshop aims to address this by supporting proactive industry engagement.
Who should attend?
Grain importers and traders
Livestock feed manufacturers
Approved Arrangement site operators
Logistics and storage providers
Customs brokers and freight forwarders
Industry consultants
Peak industry bodies representing feed, grain, and biosecurity interests
During the workshop participants will hear from a cross-section of departmental staff and gain a clearer understanding of:
The biosecurity risk assessment and import permit process
Transport, storage and handling requirements
Compliance obligations and inspection procedures
End-to-end import pathway expectations
We strongly encourage in-person attendance to gain the full benefit of the day’s interactive format, including scenario-based activities and group discussions with departmental staff, however an online option will be available for those who cannot attend the workshop on the day.
The workshop is a free event. To attend, click on the Register button. Registrations close 8 August 2025.
