    Refunds

Unfortunately, DUSC is unable to provide a refund if you are no longer able to attend one of our trips. This is because trip bookings require the club to pay in full for the trip in advance, and as a club we rely on this income to make trip payments and we can’t get refunds from accommodation/trip suppliers due to their no refund policies.

If you are no longer able to come on the trip, you must notify the club ASAP.

The only instance in which the club could provide any kind of refund (partial or full) would be if the club could find someone to take your spot on the trip. Please note however that refunds are not guaranteed and often due to last minute cancellations, it can be too short notice to find a replacement trip attendee.

So please let us know as soon as you know that you cannot come so that we may have time to try and fill your place.

****Note that your $100 deposit is non-refundable under any circumstances***

    Insurance

There are several types of insurance to be aware of before registering for/attending a DUSC trip.

If you are a current Deakin student and trip participant, you may be covered under Deakin’s insurance. If there is an incident/injury, the club will submit an incident report to Deakin and the Deakin Insurance team will reach out to you in relation to this and provide details on any possible claim against the personal accident insurance provided for students.

Please note that this is for current Deakin student trip participants only.

If you are a non-Deakin student, you will be required to take out your own insurance and are not covered under Deakin’s insurance policy. Note that only Deakin Students who are DUSC members can come on the trip.

We recommend that all trip attendees take out appropriate personal insurance at the time of registration for the trip (travel insurance and private health insurance).

If you are taking out travel insurance, please note that domestic travel insurance plans do not usually include cover for medical hospital, ambulance or dental expenses as while in Australia this is covered by Medicare and private health insurance (we recommend having private health). Please also check with your insurance provider whether you need to add on a ‘Winter Sports’ activity as a higher risk item to be insured for appropriately.

However, if an individual sustained an injury while participating in a covered winter sporting activity, there is still cover available for other expenses such as additional transport and accommodation expenses. Deakin’s insurance is also applicable in this instance if you are a current Deakin student. The travel insurance component would also provide cover in case of a last-minute cancellation, just make sure to add on the Winter Sports addition to the insurance if this is a required component of the policy (so if you are required to cancel, you aren’t ending up significantly out of pocket).

We recommend looking into insurance providers to get the best deal and ensure you are covered appropriately. As an example, here is a known insurance provider that provides Ski Travel Insurance (note that Domestic and International coverage is different): https://www.1cover.com.au/ski-travel-insurance/

    Lessons

Lessons are not a mandatory element of our DUSC trips. However, we have found that by doing lessons you get to know the others on the trip better and help to ensure that you have the ski basics down pat and can hit the slopes safely. Lessons are strongly recommended to participants who are first timers or beginners. If you do not know how to ski or snowboard there is a good chance you will be left behind and the trip may not be very enjoyable. We recommend lessons for more advanced skiers and snowboarders as well, as this can be a good refresher and opportunity to update your skills.

Mt Buller offers several types of lessons, if you wish to book a private lesson ensure this is booked prior to the trip, as they book out. Group lessons can be booked on the mountain at any time.

    Equipment

All participants on the trip are required to bring and wear a helmet at all trips while skiing or snowboarding. If you do not own a helmet, then you must hire one for the duration of the trip. This is a mandatory requirement.

    Alcohol

DUSC does not promote the consumption of alcohol during the trip. Alcohol is not to be consumed during the day/outside of the approved times, especially during skiing or snowboarding. If individuals choose to consume alcohol, it is at their own cost in the free time, they can do so on their own accord and at their own risk. The club is not providing any alcohol on this trip. All drinking should occur at licensed venues. Any behaviour deemed inappropriate will result in the removal of that student from the trip at their own cost, the University being notified, and issues being referred onto appropriate parties (police, Deakin Student Conduct, DUSA etc).

    Expectations

Deakin Uni Snow Club is affiliated with Deakin Uni Student Association, and by attending this trip, you are representing the club, DUSA and Deakin. Deakin promotes values of respect in all interactions with staff and students of the university community. These are detailed in the Student Code of Conduct and are part of your responsibility as a student. Any reports of communication or behaviours by students which are not deemed to be respectful, or are contrary to Deakin values, may be referred to the Student Conduct team in the Dean of Students office. By registering for this trip, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions outlined here: https://policy.deakin.edu.au/view.current.php?id=00084
