    Brunchercize presents Burlesque 101- A four-week introduction to burlesque course!

    Burlesque 101 is your introduction to the art of tease.

    Burlesque, the art of tease, is a performance art that uses elements of dance, mime, storytelling, theatre, comedy and stripping to engage and entertain the audience. In this four-week course, you will learn the foundations of burlesque and how to cultivate an engaging stage presence. Through practicing struts, walks, tracing, shakes, shimmys, body rolls, stillness and eye contact you will learn to connect with your audience and better understand how you can use your body and your presence to express feelings, drama, whatever you want it to, all through the teasing, dancing art of burlesque!   

    Course dates:

    The course consists of four classes held over consecutive weeks, commencing Thursday 24 August. The class dates are:

    • Week 1: 7pm - 8pm Thursday, 24 August
    • Week 2: 7pm - 8pm Thursday, 31 August
    • Week 3: 7pm - 8pm Thursday, 7 September
    • Week 4: 7pm - 8pm Thursday, 14 September 

    About your instructor, Rainbow:

    Rainbow is an international award-winning Newcastle-based performance artist, teacher and producer. She is an original cast member (Lord F) of Swamplesque, the burlesque parody, and is headlining the Australian Burlesque Festival 2023. She is looking forward to introducing you to the joy and art of burlesque.

    What to wear: bring clothes you can move and dance in. You are also welcome to bring dancing shoes (ballet flats, chorus, salsa or ballroom shoes), but you can also dance barefoot if you prefer.

    Who is the class for?

    • The course is open to all persons over the age of 18 who wish to learn the art of burlesque.

    Our class and services are designed to help you learn new dance or performance skills or develop existing skills. Your participation in this class may expose you to the risk of physical harm or personal injury. You agree that it is your responsibility to only select classes which are suitable for your fitness level and experience. If you are injured, pregnant or have existing medical conditions, please consult your doctor before commencing a new dance class. If for any reason you feel any pain or discomfort during the classes, it is your responsibility to immediately stop participating and inform us immediately and seek appropriate medical attention.

    We limit our liability as permitted under the Australian Consumer Law.

    You acknowledge and agree that you must act respectfully and considerately towards us and other participants and not do anything to cause harm. If you fail to comply with this, you agree that we may ask you to leave a class at any time.
