Bacharach was responsible for over 30 number one hits, and over 1000 artists have recorded his song. He and lyricist Hal David had their first number one in 1956, they would write together for four decades, when Hal retired Burt wrote songs with Carol Bayer Sager his wife for a few years, Elvis Costello, Neil Diamond, Peter Allen and Christopher Cross to name a few. Burt is regarded as one of the greatest contemporary composers of our time, with 6 decades of work.
