Bush & Banter
Event description
Join us for an afternoon and evening in the bush designed to build your confidence outdoors. This hands-on workshop blends practical learning, shared kai, and time in the ngahere as day turns into night.
We’ll begin in a sheltered, bush-side setting with relaxed, classroom-style learning. You’ll get the essentials of:
Basic navigation with topographic maps and phone apps
Reading weather patterns and understanding how they affect your trip
Packing right: what’s essential, what’s optional, and how to carry it well
Gear tips: what’s worth investing in, and what you can do without
After a shared meal of wild kai, we’ll head out on a short bush walk (approx. 40 minutes) before reaching a clearing. Here you’ll get hands-on with:
Fire-making techniques
Setting up tents, stoves, and other key gear
Sharing stories and kōrero around a campfire
We’ll finish by walking out under the stars with headlamps, experiencing the bush at night in a safe and supported way.
This is an intro-friendly event—perfect if you’re curious about tramping, hunting, or just want to grow your outdoor skills. Expect a welcoming, down-to-earth vibe and plenty of practical takeaways.
