    Event description

You’ve chosen your Bush bud - now it’s time to learn all about them!

Join us for a Bush Buds walk - the theme of this walk is Grassland, and it will give you the opportunity to learn more about the habitat of the following Bush Buds:

    • Grassland earless dragon
    • Striped Legless lizard
    • Golden Sun Moth
    • Perunga Grasshopper
    • Button Wrinklewort
    • Tarengo Leek orchid
    • Ginninderra Peppercress

The walk is led by Friends of Grasslands who will teach us about this special habitat and the plants and animals that call it home. This is a short walk as we will spend time learning and looking - there is so much to discover in a grassland!

After the walk we will share morning tea and colour in our “Communities for Creatures” banner, calling on the federal Environment Minister to protect our grassland Bush Buds.

Note: Please bring a water bottle, wear a hat, long pants and sturdy covered shoes.

We will email all registered attendees with further details and safety information on Thursday 2nd November.

Where? St Marks Grasslands, Charles Sturt University Campus, 15 Blackall St, Barton ACT 2600. Google maps link.

    When? Sunday 5 November 10:30 - 12:30

    Who? Friends of Grasslands

Accessibility: This walk is great for kids and those with reduced mobility. It will be short and slow to allow for time to discover what makes grasslands so special. The path is unsealed, relatively flat with some sloping sections.

This event is also part of the Communities for Creatures week of action. Communities across Australia are coming together from Monday 30 October to Sunday 5 November 2023 to send a clear message to politicians: communities nationwide love Australian creatures and we want strong action to save them from extinction.

    At the walk we will:

    • Grasslands walk and talk
    • Have conversations with like-minded locals
    • Share morning tea
    • Draw and write on the Community for Creatures banner, asking for the protection of our Grassland Bush buds including the Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon. The banner will be delivered to the Federal Environment Minister.

Event in collaboration with Friends of Grasslands and ACF Community Canberra.
