Bush Inventors' Club - Crawley - Homeschool Edition
Event description
Bush Inventors’ Club is a space where primary aged children can experiment, create and play with natural resources in a fun after school activity.
Nature Educators and Nature Playworkers lead the clubs. They are passionate about allowing freedom of play.
A major part of the club is developing self-risk assessment skills, allowing risk taking with support in identifying hazards and body awareness.
Term One will focus on nature connection through Wilderness Awareness Games - complimented by hut building, tool use and development of bush skills. Generally, Wilderness Awareness Games are high energy, involving fast movement – running, chasing, dodging, jumping – and getting the heart pumping. They are based on animal behaviours observed in the wild and often require children to imitate the forms or actions of particular animals. There are rules and instructions for each game that require focus. The games require balance and coordination – developing agility in the body and stretching proprioception and equilibrioception. Games are collaborative and often require teams that develop cooperation and empathy. Other Wilderness Awareness Games are less active and focus more on stillness. These games enhance awareness and the full use of the senses. They open our peripheral vision, hearing, ability to spot intricate details or simply develop our patience in being still in nature.
