Bush Songs & City Ditties
Event description
Bush Songs & City Ditties includes convict broadside ballads, shearing and droving songs, seafaring tearjerkers, children’s folklore rhymes, old-time bush dance tunes, wartime humour, classic bush poetry and a few songs and yarns from city larrikin life. It’s a rare opportunity to celebrate an earlier Australia.
For nearly sixty years, Warren Fahey has collected and performed bush songs, recitations, yarns and city ditties to help us appreciate our national identity. He has been a voice on ABC Radio for most of those years and is the author of over 30 books, as well as the producer of more than 1,000 sound recordings and documentary videos. In concert, with Marcus Holden (fiddle and mandolin) and Garry Steel (Australia’s accordion wizard), he firmly presses nostalgia buttons with rare bush ballads, folk songs, bush poetry and outback humour - all presented with stories which bring history alive.
“As genuine as gum leaves burning on a campfire. A national treasure." (Philip Adams/ABC Radio)
