Learn about and taste Australian Native Plant Foods with a presentation by Daphney Ngarrpadla (Aunty Daphney) and her good friend Dolores (Ranger D).

We invite you to join this workshop and presentation.

There will also be the chance to try different foods and sample some native food cooking.

About your presenters:

Ngarrpadla Daphney Paringangki (Riverwoman) Rickett is a Kaurna Elder/Ngarrindjeri, Latji Latji and Nharangga women. She has had over 30 years’ experience working at a corporate level, with local community and education centres. Ngarrpadla Daphney has dedicated most of her life to her Aboriginal community. She is committed to empowering her people and passing on knowledge and skills in the hope of a brighter future for Australia’s First Nations peoples. She is also dedicated to acts of reconciliation, believing that working together with her Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal sisters and brothers assists in developing meaningful relationships. Daphney’s goal is to have a positive outcome, mutual respect and a deeper understanding of Culture and Country.

Ngarrpadla Daphney also has a passion for exploring Australian native plants as foods. She first started a bush tucker catering business early 2000. Since then, she has moved into education settings where her enthusiasm is known to many. Ngarrpadla has a passion for sharing her story and making it easy for those who want to dip into Australian native foods.

Dolores Amos, also known as Ranger D, is a white woman of German descent. She is a natural resource manager with 35 years experience working and living amongst our natural world. She believes that environmental education is fundamental to the future of our world and has spent the last 30 years working in R-12 schools and tertiary education centres as an environmental educator, Scientist in Residence and a Thinker in Residence. Dolores has also designed and developed a number of revegetation sites using indigenous flora and fauna and many bush food gardens using plant species found throughout Australia.

Ngarrpadla Daphney and Dolores first met around ten years ago. There was an instant connection and the pair have worked together since, passing on their shared knowledge to anyone who will listen.

Children: Please note that this event is primarily aimed at adults. If children wish to attend, they will need to have a concession ticket, must be accompanied by a guardian and be appropriately supervised.

Please bring:

  • your water bottle
  • pen and paper (if you'd like to take notes)
  • appropriate clothing for the weather. We'll be in an undercover outdoor courtyard, so please check the weather forecast and you may wish to pack a warm jacket.

Location: We'll be in the rear courtyard of the Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre. You can access this space by walking through the Visitor Info Centre from Commercial Road
