Bushcare Stonequarry Creek, Picton - August 2025
Event description
🌿 Discover the Stonequarry Creek Habitat Garden – A Hidden Gem in Picton! 🌿
Tucked beside the beautiful Picton Botanic Gardens, the Stonequarry Creek Habitat Garden is more than just a scenic spot—it’s a thriving community project where nature and people come together to make a difference.
This special area is part of Wollondilly Shire Council’s Bushcare Program, where local residents, families, and corporate volunteers join forces to bring back the lush river flat forest that once flourished here.
🌧️ Why It Matters
Stonequarry Creek is prone to flooding during heavy rain, and invasive weeds like Trad, Turkey Rhubarb, Privet, and Wild Tobacco make things worse by clogging the waterway—like a giant bath plug! These weeds also crowd out native plants and harm local wildlife.
🌱 How You Can Help
Join us on Bushcare activity days, where volunteers of all ages come together to:
Remove invasive weeds
Plant native trees and shrubs
Strengthen the creek banks
Create a safe, vibrant home for birds, insects, and other local wildlife
You’ll be helping to plant beautiful natives like Paperbarks, She Oaks, Wattles, Tea Trees, grasses and groundcovers—plants that not only look great but also protect our environment.
📍 Where to Find Us
We’re located on the western side of Hume Oval, right along the banks of Stonequarry Creek. Just across the oval from the car park and look for the Bushcare sign near the cycleway.
💚 Whether you’re a nature lover, a family looking for a fun outdoor activity, or someone who just wants to give back—we’d love to have you join us
