Nau mai haere mai Electra Business Breakfast is pleased to be welcoming back Sharon Zollner, the ANZ New Zealand Chief Economist.  Sharon last spoke at Breakfast in September 2024 after one year of the current Government having their boots under the table.  Another year on sees the delivery of two Budgets to New Zealanders in their election term so far. 

Rough times are continuing for New Zealand with rising unemployment and a slowdown in business activity across a wide range of sectors.  Sharon will narrate her thoughts on how well the economy is doing when it comes to growth, the cost of living, interest rates, inflation pressures, coping with US tariffs, and what we can expect from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand over the next 12 months. 

Sharon is an engaging commentator who is not shy with her views.  She will help make sense of the many economic indicators and suggest ways we can make better business decisions as we continue to navigate challenging times. 

This breakfast will be held in the Southward Theatre as it will draw a large crowd.  Start thinking about your questions for Sharon to take on the day.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Sharon Zollner
NZ New Zealand Chief Economist, media commentator, Mum, and karaoke mic hogger!

Sharon joined the ANZ Economics team in 2010 and became Chief Economist in late 2017.  She started her career at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in 1998 and has also worked at the Central Bank of Norway.  Sharon created the NZ Truckometer economic indicator in 2012. 

Her team of six includes financial markets, data, and agriculture specialists as well as general macroeconomists.  They produce some of New Zealand’s most closely watched economic data as well as regular forecasts and commentary on the state of the economy.  Sharon is based in Auckland and holds Kāpiti firmly in her annual speaking calendar with support from the ANZ Kāpiti team.
