Peter Franke
My practice is focused on assisting Australian technology and product developers to gain protection throughout the world. IP is about business - understanding the business and commercial strategy of the client is the bedrock of how we co-develop IP strategy with our clients. This leads to the most efficient and effective forms of IP protection being pursued, in the most appropriate territories, and with a clear objective and plan from the start.
I have extensive experience in drafting hundreds of patent families which have proceeded to grant in Australia and major jurisdictions around the world. My clients typically have patent, design and trade mark portfolios across multiple countries, and range in size from start ups to large privately held and listed businesses.
Adam and I started our firm from scratch, and so have a real understanding of the difficulties of early stage businesses.
Apart from creating and managing international IP portfolios, I provide the advice and strategy to go with it. I develop IP strategies to support business plans, as well as advising on infringement, validity, freedom to operate, IP expert reports for IPOs and trade sales, oppositions, and re-examinations.
Peter is actively engaged with both the Australian group and the international organisation of AIPPI. He has been the author or co-author of more than 20 papers submitted as part of the scientific work of AIPPI on behalf of the Australian group.
I have particular interests in medical devices and technologies, software including AI systems, sustainable technologies, energy generation and carbon capture, electronic and mechanical devices.
