The stunning Spero – Wanderer region is a 139,000 hectare tract of wild country south of Macquarie Harbour
that has been left out of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Also known as the Southwest Conservation
Area, the area is managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service but mineral exploration and mining (for example)
are permitted. Support the campaign to add the Spero to the World Heritage Area.
This ball was founded in 1998 to honour, with a bit of humour, buttongrass and the rest of Tasmania's natural
environment, all Tasmanians who in the last 40,000 years have walked the buttongrass moorlands, and the many
musicians and dancers who have helped shape Tasmania’s unique culture.
Proceeds of the ball will go to the Tasmanian National Parks Association (https://tnpa.org.au/)
working to protect our natural heritage.
Tread lightly on the land, even if you stomp on the dance floor.
