ART
Take a look at the first major survey exhibition of Melbourne-based artist Nadine Christensen. This selection of key works spanning more than two decades highlights a practice that interweaves and circles around over time, gleaning what is seemingly incidental and overlooked from her immediate environment. Discover how Nadine draws on the world around her to engage with the inextricable tangle of art, life and work.
PERFORMANCE
Experience Chinese-New Zealand writer and composer Xiaole Zhan’s whimsical response to our current exhibition. Inspired by Nadine’s Christensen’s use of everyday and found objects, this performance of percussion, narration, electronics and sound invites you to listen in as percussionist Aditya Bhat interacts with an intimate landscape of objects - fish tanks, vases, lamps, bells, tin cans - in unexpected ways. The work draws its title from one of Christensen’s sculptures: Things that feel like people. As a chronically ill person who often spends a lot of time in their bedroom, Zhan reflects that everyday objects can become landmarks that live and breathe on their own.
