BYD Nelson Bays Open 2026 | 21st–23rd August 2026
Join us for the inaugural BYD Nelson Bays Open, a Club Event Sanctioned by Padel New Zealand, bringing together players from around New Zealand for a fantastic weekend of competitive padel, great hospitality, and the opportunity to experience one of New Zealand's newest padel destinations.
Entries are open for players in the Men's A & B and Women's A & B grade.
Maximum event capacity is 80 players (40 teams) across the four grades.
$90 entry fee per player (+ booking fees).
Entries close Friday 14th August 11.59pm
Important:
Spaces are limited and entries are only confirmed once both partners have completed registration. If one partner registers and the event reaches capacity before the second partner completes their registration, the team will be placed on the waitlist. Players are therefore encouraged to coordinate with their partner and register at the same time.
Tier 2 Padel New Zealand ranking points will be awarded in accordance with the Padel New Zealand Ranking System.

Tournament Format
The tournament will be played using a Round Robin pool format followed by knockout finals, ensuring plenty of court time for all participants.
Minimum of three matches guaranteed per team
Round Robin pool play to determine standings and qualification for the knockout rounds
Knockout finals for qualifying teams
Pool matches and quarterfinals will be played as two sets with a match tiebreak if required
Semifinals and finals will be played as best-of-three sets
Matches will be conducted in accordance with Padel New Zealand sanctioned competition standards
Final grades, draw sizes, advancement criteria, and tie-break procedures will be confirmed and published following the close of entries.
Tournament Schedule
Thursday 20th August - Welcome Dinner – 7:00pm
Players travelling to Nelson are invited to join us for a casual welcome meal and social gathering. Venue to be confirmed.
Friday 21st August - Tournament commences at 10:00am
Saturday 22nd August - Round Robin and knockout matches continue.
Sunday 23rd August - Finals and playoff matches.
All matches will be completed by 4:00pm at the latest to allow players travelling home sufficient time for departures.
Venue Information
The event will be hosted at Padel Centre, 13 Coman Drive, Richmond, Tasman.
Players should note that the venue roof height is 7 metres, compared with the commonly recommended 8–9 metre clearance for international competition venues. While this may occasionally influence very high defensive lobs, all competitors will play under the same conditions throughout the tournament.

Nelson/Tasman offers a wide range of accommodation options, cafes, restaurants, wineries, and outdoor attractions. We encourage visiting players and supporters to make a weekend of it and enjoy everything the region has to offer.
Player Information
Tournament draws and schedules will be published prior to the event.
Matches will be self-refereed in accordance with Padel New Zealand sanctioned competition standards.
Players must use a racket wrist strap during all matches.
All players must hold a current Padel New Zealand Player Licence to compete and it must be purchased before registrations close *
*Please note Padel New Zealand player licences are valid from 1 July to 30 June each year. As this event takes place in August, all players will require a current 2026/27 Padel New Zealand Player Licence.
