    Event description

Caddy yannadah gilly (under moon light)

Aunty Joanne Selfe Cadi Nura, Eora, will share the rich celestial knowledge systems of Australia's First Nations People. These are sophisticated and complex astronomical knowledge systems, developed over millennia they reveal relationships deeply embedded in science and culture. This is a living system of knowledge which is still cherished and maintained through oral tradition today.

Aunty Joanne grew up with stories of the night skies, shared by her mother, Elders and Community Knowledge Holders.

A Gadigal woman born in Sydney she is a founding member of Warringa Baiya (NSW Aboriginal Women’s Legal Service) and sat on the Youth Koori Court as an Elder for a number of years.

Today, she works on the NSW Judicial Commission’s Ngara Yura program, that educates judicial officers on matters relating to Aboriginal customs, culture, traditions, and society. In her spare time, she works with women and young people in her community sharing the very knowledge systems and skills, she learnt from her mother, Elders, and community knowledge holders, she is also a master grass weaver.
