Cairns Post proudly presents Future Cairns
Event description
Driving Cairns to become a World Leading City of Sustainability, liveability and connectivity.
We all love Cairns for its liveability, the natural environment in which we reside and lifestyle it affords us, it's our slice of paradise.
So the question is, as the Cairns population is forecast to almost double by 2050, what decisions do we need to make today to protect and enhance Cairns liveability, prosperity and the environment that we all hold so dearly?
We have our challenges too, restrained by the sea to the west the ranges to the east, Cairns has little option but to grow upwards or lineally north and south. Like many regional cities our CBD is currently far from being the vibrant beating heart of the city we’d like it to be. We also live in, work in and showcase our natural environment to tourists and locals alike, whilst also having a responsibility to protect it.

So as a city of 300,000+ what does Cairns Look like? What must we retain and what do we want Cairns to become?
How do we plan optimally for a thriving CBD and accommodate those that want to visit or reside here?
How do we connect and what role does public transport have in protecting livability?
How do we continue to grow and diversify the economy and what talent do we need here?
How do expedite Aviation connection for both tourism and trade?
How do we manage this growth sustainably and not at the expense of the natural environment?
What City do we want Cairns to become? and what can we learn form other cities that have done this well?
These questions and more will be explored during Future Cairns where the Cairns Regional Council will launch its towards 2050 planning process. Join the Cairns Post for this not to be missed event.Â
