CALD in Cyber Networking Event - Oct
Event description
Welcome to our monthly networking event for our CALD in Cyber Community.
Event Agenda:
"The Unintended Career" With Jasmin Wong
We often have grand plans for our careers. We envision ourselves in a particular role, working in a specific field, and making a significant impact on the world. However, this rarely happens in real life. Most of the time, we stumble on opportunities that we never could have imagined. We take on new challenges, learn new skills, and discover hidden talents. And before we know it, we find ourselves on a career path that we never intended to take.
Bio
Jasmin Wong, currently a senior security architect at Westpac, has been an active advocate for diversity, equality and inclusion within the cyber security and privacy industry. She has extensive knowledge and practical experience in solving cyber security and privacy issues across various sectors. Her pragmatic approach and strong leadership and facilitation skills have allowed her to build trust and drive change within organisations.
Her particular interests in cyber security and privacy include cryptography, AI ethics and data protection.
She has recently added the CISSP certification and is looking forward to spending her summer holidays not studying cyber security. In her spare time, she enjoys origami and handstands, but not at the same time.
followed by our networking activities and games to get to know each other.
No boredom. Just pure joy of connecting and building your network in Sydney.
Food and beverage will be provided! Just come with an open mind and heart.

So, what's it like to be a part of a culturally and linguistically diverse group in cyber security?
It's tough!
Did you know that Australia is one of the world's most diverse countries? With 1 in 4 Australians born overseas, over 300 religions practiced, and more than 100 languages spoken.
In cyber security, we're serving this diverse community, and our industry should mirror this diversity. But, sadly, it doesn’t!
We often discuss getting and promoting more women in cyber roles, but have you ever tried looking up the percentage of CALD professionals in cyber or leadership roles? You'll quickly see how far behind we are.
This needs to change!
We are thrilled to launch our 'CALD in Cyber' community events and awards.
Our community's aim is to shine a spotlight on the unsung CALD heroes, the ones who often have to work twice as hard to prove their abilities in the industry.
Within this community, we aim to discuss and tackle our challenges head-on, create and seize opportunities, and ensure you feel valued, celebrated, and visible.
So, why should you join?
- If you ever had to Anglicize your name to increase your job prospects, this community is for you.
- If you've had to downplay your experience on your CV for fear of over-qualification, or accepting lesser pay, because senior roles seem to be an exclusive club, this community is for you.
- If you feel restrained from bringing your authentic self, and celebrating your unique heritage at work, this community is for you.
- If you've been hired as a diversity quota filler, but found that inclusivity was sorely lacking, this community is for you.
- If you're seeking validation, empathy, and advice from those who've walked similar paths, this community is for you.
- And if you don't personally identify with CALD but wish to stand with us as an ally, this community is most definitely for you.
Please join our community here at no cost: https://www.linkedin.com/group...
