Perry, a dynamic figure whose contributions to the LGBTQ+ community were decades ahead of their time.

Screening Overview:

"Call Me Troy" chronicles Rev. Perry's journey as the founder of the Metropolitan Community Church, the first church to recognize the spiritual needs of the gay community. Beyond this monumental achievement, Rev. Perry also made history by serving as the first openly gay person on the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations. His ground-breaking actions include performing the first public same-sex wedding in the U.S. in 1969 and filing the inaugural lawsuit seeking legal recognition for same-gender marriages in 1970. From advocacy to equality, this documentary showcases Rev. Perry's unyielding dedication to the fight for equal rights and protections. Great news! MCC has established a presence on the Gold Coast.

Following the viewing of the documentary, we'll board the tram to reach the Uniting Church in Southport, where MCC conducts its services. At this location, we'll participate in a substantial conversation about the documentary, and the input you provide will be integrated into the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health's report concerning an LGBT+ strategy tailored for the City of the Gold Coast.
