CAMINO READY #1 — Yarra Valley Rail Trail | 20km

If the Camino is on your bucket list — or you simply want to build your long-distance walking fitness — this is a brilliant place to start.

Welcome to CAMINO READY, Wander with Luisa’s four-part long-distance training series.

Over the coming months, we’ll gradually build from:

#1 — 20km
#2 — 22km
#3 — 25km
#4 — 30km

The aim is simple: get comfortable spending longer periods on your feet, test your shoes and gear, build endurance, and learn how your body feels over increasingly longer distances.

Our first walk takes us along the beautiful Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, beginning from Lilydale.

This is a mostly gentle, steady trail rather than a technical hike, which makes it ideal for practising the kind of sustained walking required for the Camino and other multi-day adventures.

THE WALK

📍 Start/finish: Lilydale
🚆 Public transport friendly: Easy access via Lilydale Station
💪 Difficulty: Moderate — primarily due to distance
⏱️ Expect a full day of walking

We’ll walk at a steady, sustainable group pace and take breaks along the way.

We’ll also stop for a proper lunch break, so please bring:

Your own packed lunch
Plenty of water
Snacks for the day
Comfortable, well-worn walking shoes
A daypack

If you’re preparing for the Camino, this is also a great opportunity to carry the pack and gear you’re planning to travel with.

You do not need to be training for the Camino to join us.

This is not a race. The focus is on building endurance, enjoying the journey and spending a great day walking together.

Future walks will increase to 22km, 25km and finally 30km, with different locations around Victoria to be announced.

You can join one walk or work your way through the whole series.
