Learn how to use a creative, gamified facilitation tool to engage young people, communities, teams, purpose-driven organisations and businesses in solving real social and environmental challenges through play, storytelling and collaboration.

Inspired by Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), Camp Venture is more than a board game. It is a strengths-based facilitation methodology that helps groups uncover hidden strengths, build relationships, generate ideas and move from conversation to collective action.

Already used by local government, community organisations, universities, youth services and purpose-driven organisations, Camp Venture offers a practical, engaging and fun approach to community engagement, strategic planning, innovation, team development and strengths-based, place-based practice.

What you'll experience

You'll play Camp Venture from start to finish, explore the principles of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), learn practical facilitation, storytelling and debriefing techniques, discover how to build connection and participation, and explore ways to adapt the game for different communities, organisations and settings.

By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a complete facilitation process, practical resources and the tools to start facilitating your own Camp Venture sessions.

Facilitator Pathway

This workshop is the first step in the Camp Venture Train the Trainer Pathway.

Participants who wish to continue can progress towards becoming an Advanced Camp Venture Facilitator and, ultimately, a Licensed Camp Venture Trainer.

Along the way, you'll gain real-world facilitation experience, receive ongoing mentoring and become part of a growing community of practitioners using Camp Venture and other innovative approaches to strengthen communities, organisations and ecosystems across Australia.

About your trainer

Dimitrios Papalexis

Dimitrios Papalexis is the Founder of Soulgen, an award-winning community development practitioner, facilitator and certified Psychodramatist with over 15 years' experience helping communities discover their strengths and create meaningful change. He was recognised as the NSW Youth Worker of the Year (2019) for his contribution to young people and communities.

Trusted by councils, Aboriginal organisations, NGOs, universities, purpose-driven organisations and community collectives across Australia, Dimitrios designs and facilitates highly engaging experiences that strengthen community and youth engagement, build social capital, foster social cohesion, activate local leadership and unlock the strengths of people and place.

He is the co-creator of Camp Venture, a serious game and facilitation methodology inspired by Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). Combining community development, experiential learning, psychodrama and gamification, his work helps groups make the invisible visible, uncover hidden assets, strengthen relationships and transform ideas into meaningful collective action.
