About the event: The hypothesis of this research is based on a theory that civil engineering projects can create more value, more efficiently by adjusting priorities in the ways we approach projects. The question does not suggest we stop using project controls or throw out the body of knowledge on project management built over centuries. It is exploring the notion that we could do better (i.e. create more or broader value, and deliver more efficiently) if we use what we know, and what others know, from a different perspective. In the current shifting landscape of political priorities and global issues, these goals are of particular importance (Allen, 2021) and should be achievable. The research comprises a literature review meta-analysis, followed by three case studies to fill gaps in knowledge. The outcome of the literature review can be summarised as producing a retrospective on the ways projects have been done in the past and present, and resulting ideas to test in the future.
