The event launches a partnership between Canberra Multicultural community forum and Australian Red Cross to raise awareness and educate the public about the importance of diverse blood donations.

Australia's growing multicultural population has heightened the demand for rare blood types, which are primarily found among donors from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Blood types are more complex than the commonly recognised A, B, and O groups, with over 300 additional variants.

Patients requiring multiple transfusions of red cells, plasma, platelets and stem cells have a better health outcome when their donors match their ethnic background.

Lifeblood is focussing on increasing donations from multicultural communities to better serve the diverse needs of Australia's patients.
