About the event

What is economic security? What started off as a cautious reaction by governments to the use of global markets for strategic leverage — or geoeconomics — quickly became a discipline in its own right. Bureaucracies and research programs have been reorganised around it. Resilience, de-risking, strategic autonomy and strategic indispensability have become part of the lexicon.

But what exactly is the question being answered? Is economic security protectionism in disguise? Or is there a legitimate need for a new framework to jointly pursue national security and prosperity in a changed global order?

To examine these questions and how economic security is being defined and deployed, the Canberra Security Economics Network will be joined by Brad Glosserman, a leading international voice on Asia Pacific regional security.
