12.00pm – 1.00pm: Sustainability and Tech: Where are we really?

Join Mr. G, Galeno Chua, Head of Sustainability and Communications at WasteCo, New Zealand’s only diamond-certified Toitu Enviromark waste solutions company for an honest discussion about our e-waste and our waste ecosystem in New Zealand. This talk will cover our current ecosystem, challenges, available outlets and an open discussion on what we can do as a community.

Speaker Bio:

Mr. G is a strategy and sustainability professional and certified coach, he has over 15 years working experience with companies, NGOs and Governments throughout the Middle East, Asia, Europe and now New Zealand. His consulting and coaching achievements have won sustainability and innovation awards with the Ministry of Innovation in Cambodia and the United Nations Development Programme.

1.00pm – 2.00pm:  Why Plant based is not a trend – The Future of Protein

Plant based foods are no longer a trend but a complete shift in consumer habits. How a local butcher’s daughter is helping to shape Aotearoa’s reputation as a world leader in this exciting space… for the Grater Good.

Speaker Bio:

Flip Grater from the Grater Good has been dedicated to making delicious vegan food for upwards of two decades as a passionate home cook and cookbook author. While not cooking, Flip has pursued a successful career as a singer songwriter with five albums under her belt and multiple international tours.
Our team come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are dedicated to hospitality and innovation. We’re excited about creative and elegant solutions through our kai.

2.00pm – 3.00pm: Harnessing the most abundant protein on the planet from green leaves

Leaft Foods is a purpose-driven business determined to restore Earth’s balance by how we farm and produce food. We’re separating a protein called Rubisco which is the most abundant protein on the planet (and responsible for photosynthesis) – it’s an incredible food ingredient, so we’re using leaf protein to develop a range of foods that lift people out of the cycle of dissatisfaction with the existing plant- and animal-based proteins.

Speaker Bio:

Chris Simcock is an experienced corporate finance and investment professional with a passion for building companies that solve big problems. As Leaft’s Head of Finance and Strategy, Chris is on a mission to use his skillset and passion for the environment to contribute to building a purpose-led company that can significantly reduce the footprint of our food production systems.

3.00pm – 4.00pm: Enabling NZ’s low carbon future in aviation

Over the last two years, Christchurch Airport has commenced a 400-hectare renewable energy development to deliver the on-site energy needs of future decarbonised aviation and prove the concept for others around the world. This development has established strategic relationships with world leading technology innovators across aviation and energy.

Speaker Bio:

Nick Flack leads Christchurch Airport’s Planning and Sustainability team. He is passionate about infrastructure and supply chain organisations that positively contribute to their community, city and country. His role is expansive and includes the Airport’s long term planning and compliance, sustainability programme and asset management across airfield, terminal and campus operations.
