Canterbury Tech hosts a day of inspiring speakers and events exploring the amazing work happening in Canterbury about preparing and developing the future of transport at the Tech Week Hub at EPIC centre.

Schedule:
12.00pm – 1.00pm: Collaborating to Solve NZ’s Transport Challenges
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency will talk about their journey launching the innovation fund Hoe ki angitū.
Fund recipients Connor Read from Shutl, Ria Chapman from Abley, and Rochelle Hardy from Jacobs (all based in Christchurch) talk about their projects, experience of, and opportunities created through, the Fund.
This will be followed by a Q&A opportunity.

Speaker Bios:
Rochelle Hardy leads Jacobs ANZ Placemaking team across Aotearoa and Australia. She has extensive experience in integrated land use and transport planning, strategic planning, thought leadership, sustainability, and engagement. Rochelle is passionate about delivering social and sustainable outcomes through projects and challenging BAU.
Aidan Smith is a co-founder of Shutl, a company focused on transforming urban transportation patterns by promoting micro-mobility solutions.”
Ria Chapman is Innovation Manager at Abley, a transport and location intelligence consultancy. Abley are developing and trialling a prototype application to enable employers to provide their employees with personalised travel planning and incentives to change commuter behaviour.
1.00pm – 2.00pm: The Future of Transport in Canterbury
The future is closer than you think. 2023 is a pivotal year for climate response. This session will outline what this once in a generation environmental shift means for the transport system in Canterbury and how innovation and technology can support that.
Speaker Bio:
Clare Pattison is a Principal Strategy Advisor at Environment Canterbury currently working on shifting the transport system and prioritizing investments in the Canterbury region. With her knowledge of environmental and social systems, and experience in significant change, Clare looks at the long-term future to support systems leadership.
2.00pm – 3.00pm: Aotearoa New Zealand, an Aerospace Nation!
In 2022, Aotearoa New Zealand launched the fourth most rockets in the world, behind the United States, China and Russia. We now have a unique opportunity to solidify our position as a major Space-going nation, and embed it into our Kiwi Identity. Mark Rocket, CEO, Kea Aerospace and Committee President Aerospace New Zealand
Mark Rocket is an Internet and Aerospace entrepreneur, seed investor and co-founder of Rocket Lab (2007-2011) and and CEO of Kea Aerospace who are developing a solar-powered, remotely piloted aircraft that will fly continuously in the stratosphere.
Victoria Harman, Operations Manager, Aerospace New Zealand
Victoria supports the development and growth of the local and national aerospace community through strategic partnerships and project implementation.
Catherine Moreau Hammond, Dawn Aerospace
Catherine has led and advised on communications in a number of space companies in New Zealand, the US and the UK – spanning launch, smallsat development, green propulsion and data and insights. In early 2021, Catherine returned from the UK and is the Sales & Marketing Manager at Dawn Aerospace, a space transportation company providing on-orbit propulsion and a same-day reusable spaceplane.
3.00pm – 4.00pm: Modern Inconvenience
The convenances of modern life bring with them their own inconveniences. Can bicycles be the balance between high-tech and low-tech that our transport system needs to remain robust in the face or uncertain times?

Meet David Trought – a pragmatic mechanical designer and the visionary founder of Along Bicycle Co. Armed with a diverse background working with big-name brands and startups across various industries, David has set his sights on revolutionizing urban transportation by transforming bicycles into the ultimate everyday vehicle.
