Canterbury Game Dev and Creative Tech Day
Event description
Come join the first day-long event celebrating game dev and creative tech in Canterbury!
What’s the aim? To connect, promote, and build up the game development and creative technology industry and related communities of practice within the Canterbury region.
Who is it for? Professionals, hobbyists, students, tech groups, educators, and enthusiasts in all things game and creative technology development in Canterbury.
What's on offer? A day of inspirational talks and panels, game/creative work exhibitions, catering*, networking, and professional development opportunities!
Approximate Schedule:
- 9:00 AM - Welcome and Opening Keynote
- 9:30 AM - Design and Programming (Game Design, Engineering, and Technology)
- 10:30 AM - Morning Tea
- 11:00 AM - Content Creation (Art and Animation, Audio, Narrative and Writing)
- 12:30 PM - Lunch
- 1:30 PM - Player Experience and Telemetry (QA, UX, UI, and Data Analytics)
- 3:00 PM - Afternoon Tea
- 3:30 PM - Business (Product Management, Publishing, and Marketing).
- 4:30 PM - People and Process (Production, Team, Leadership, and Community)
- 5:00 PM - Purposeful Projects (Applied, Transformational, and Serious Games).
- 5:30 PM - Dinner
- 6:30 PM - Career Development (Getting into the Industry or Starting up a Studio)
- 7:30PM - Event Close
* We will provide a light morning/afternoon tea, lunch, and dinner (with some gluten free and vegetarian options). However, attendees are encouraged to consider BYO or eateries near the venue as well.
How do the talks/panels work? Each session will cover general elements of a discipline, what the discipline looks like in game development or creative tech, and why it is important for creating a successful product. The sessions will be co-run by a mix of different communities of practice and game developers, and feature case studies of local games, creative tech projects, or works.
Why should I go? The event is a great opportunity to:
- Celebrate local success stories and connect with people in games and creative tech.
- Identify prospective new members for your tech group or creative talent for your team.
- Cross-pollinate ideas, skills, and knowledge with different creative tech disciplines.
- Showcase, playtest, or learn about some locally made games and creative tech.
- Support and build up the Canterbury game dev and creative tech community.
- Be inspired and motivated by all the cool stuff that's being done in Canterbury!
- Understand how to get involved in or join one of Canterbury's most exciting industries.
