Event description
This chess tournament is for juniors (anyone born on or after 1/1/2003 i.e. under 20 before 1 January) and is an NZCF-rated 5 round Swiss, paired with the assistance of Vega. Chess clocks will be used with the time control being 60 minutes per player, per game, with a 30 second increment from move 1. In addition to the open section, the age groups will be run as separate sections, noting that the organisers reserve the right to combine age-adjacent sections with low numbers. Players may choose to play in the open section or the section for their age.
Highest-placed Canterbury junior will be the Canterbury Junior Champion for 2023. Titles will also be awarded in age groups (under 16, 14, 12 and 10 i.e. born on or after 1/1/2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 respectively) and to the highest-placed girl overall and in each age group.

Check-In
Players must be at the venue for the players meeting or send a
text message to the organiser on 0211289543 by 9:15am or they will not
be paired in the first round.
Half-point Byes
Players may request 1 half-point bye in rounds 1-3 (i.e. Saturday). If taking a half-point bye in round 1, please email the organiser to advise (canterbury@chess.org.nz).
Prizes
Medals and certificates will be awarded to the overall winner, best girl, age group champions, and best girls in each section.
Prizes will be shared between eligible players on the same number of points - tie-breaks will not be used.
