WHAT IS A KING TIDE?

A king tide refers to an exceptionally high tide that occurs when the gravitational pull of the moon and sun align in a way that amplifies the tide. These tides typically happen a few times each year, during periods of the moon's perigee (when it’s closest to Earth) and when the sun is either at its closest or farthest from Earth, enhancing the tidal effect. King tides are not caused by storms but by the natural alignment of celestial bodies, which can result in water levels rising significantly higher than normal.

Iphoneography workshop:

Sarah Deragon is a professional portrait photographer whose work has been featured in work has been featured in Oprah Magazine, The Huffington Post, Refinery 29, and Bust Magazine. Participants will enjoy a hands-on iPhone photography workshop focused on capturing stunning landscapes. Guided Walk:

This guided excursion takes you along the Alameda shoreline at the peak of the season’s highest tides, offering a rare opportunity to witness the dramatic effects of rising waters on local ecosystems and coastal landscapes. Local climate experts from the Oakland Alameda Adaptation Committee will share how these extreme tides offer a preview of future sea-level rise and Alameda's developing climate resilience strategies. While the walk is an opportunity for photographers to practise their newly acquired skills, we welcome everyone to join us, you don't need to have attended the workshop or even to have a camera on hand!

Closing Circle:

A Healing Sound Bath Blessing to honor our Blue Planet & our connection to Nature will be offered by Isabella Joan Wilks. Isabella is a Soundbath Practioner & environmentalist dedicated to growing our community connection to nature.
